Walk into a smoke shop and the shelf says LD7. Open a forum and everyone types 7-OH. Read a lab report and it spells out 7-hydroxymitragynine. Most of the time, all three point at the same alkaloid. This glossary decodes the names buyers actually see in 2026 — which ones are chemistry, which are branding, and which are a reason to look harder at the label.

A single, well-defined alkaloid: mitragynine (the dominant alkaloid in Mitragyna speciosa, the kratom tree) with a hydroxyl group added at the seventh carbon. It occurs in the leaf only in trace amounts, so the concentrated material in tablets and powders is almost always semi-synthesized from mitragynine in a lab. The everyday shorthand. Hyphens and capitalization drift between labels, listings, and message boards, but these are pure abbreviations — no chemical difference among them. LD7 is the name that generates the most search confusion — people look up "ld7 kratom" and "what is ld7" expecting a new compound. It is not one. LD7 is a marketplace label that circulates on smoke-shop shelves and online listings, and every LD7-branded product we have examined resolves to ordinary 7-hydroxymitragynine tablets. There is no "LD7 molecule" in the chemistry literature.
The practical problem: LD7-labeled products are far less consistent about disclosure than the established 7-OH lines. Mainstream 7-OH tablets state milligram content plainly — typically 15 mg to 30 mg per tablet, with some high-strength lines above 80 mg — and the better brands publish per-batch lab results. Favor'd Alkz, for instance, publishes a breakdown of its tablet strengths in milligrams, flavor by flavor, tied to batch-level COAs. Slang and shelf names
A short field guide to other names that appear on packaging and in conversation, all of which usually resolve to the same compound:
- "Hydroxy" / "7-hydro". Casual truncations of 7-hydroxymitragynine. Common in spoken retail settings; harmless as slang, unhelpful on a label.
- "Kratom tablets" / "extract tablets". A category blur. Whole-leaf kratom and concentrated 7-OH are chemically very different products, and a tablet marketed under a generic "kratom" banner may be either. The ingredient panel and COA settle it; the shelf talker does not.
- House brand names. Individual product lines coin their own names constantly — part trademark strategy, part search-filter evasion. New coinages appear monthly; the question to ask is always the same: what compound, how many milligrams, tested by whom?

Two names increasingly seen next to 7-OH on 2026 shelves refer to genuinely different molecules. Do not treat them as synonyms.
Mitragynine pseudoindoxyl ("pseudo," MP)
Distinct alkaloid — a rearrangement product of 7-OH, not a nickname for it
Formed when 7-hydroxymitragynine undergoes a chemical rearrangement, mitragynine pseudoindoxyl has its own structure and its own research literature. Vendors began positioning it as a successor category once the DEA turned its attention to 7-OH — a pitch the paperwork has already caught up with. On July 1, 2026, the DEA filed a notice of intent to temporarily schedule mitragynine pseudoindoxyl (together with MGM-15 and MGM-16) alongside its 7-OH notice, with the same earliest possible effective date of August 5, 2026. It is not scheduled yet, but "successor" marketing is selling you the same regulatory exposure under a different name.

Distinct lab-made mitragynine derivatives with research-code names
These alphanumeric codes originated in academic medicinal-chemistry work on kratom-alkaloid derivatives and have migrated onto consumer packaging. Each designates a specific modified molecule — not 7-OH, and not each other. Neither is federally scheduled as of July 2026, but both are named, with mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, in the DEA notice of intent filed July 1, 2026 as a companion to the 7-OH action. If temporary scheduling finalizes, they would be controlled on the same timeline — so a label that swaps "7-OH" for an MGM code is not stepping outside the federal action, only outside the familiar name. Products using these codes should be held to the same standard as anything else: named compound, stated milligrams, accredited per-batch COA.
Why one alkaloid has a dozen names
Three forces keep the name count climbing. Branding: in a crowded category, a coined name like LD7 is easier to trademark and shelf-differentiate than a chemistry term every competitor also uses. Filter evasion: payment processors, ad networks, and marketplaces increasingly keyword-block "kratom" and "7-OH," so sellers rotate to names the filters have not caught up with. Regional slang: what a Tampa smoke shop calls one thing, a Dallas counter calls another, and forums compress everything further.
None of this is inherently sinister — brands rename products in every industry. But in this category there is a pattern worth naming: the further a label drifts from the actual compound name, the thinner the disclosure tends to get. A product confident in its contents usually says "7-hydroxymitragynine, X mg per tablet" somewhere on the panel. A product hiding behind a coined name and no numbers is making you do the lab's job with your wallet.
Whatever it's called, demand the COA
The name on the front of the package is marketing. The certificate of analysis is evidence. Whatever a product calls itself — LD7, 7-OH, pseudo, an MGM code, or next month's coinage — the same three-question test applies: Does the label name the actual compound and a milligram amount? Does a published, per-batch COA from an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited lab confirm those numbers? Can you match the batch number in your hand to that report? If any answer is no, the clever name is doing work the paperwork should be doing.
One more reason names matter in 2026: the legal map is drawn in compound names, not brand names. Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin ban or restrict 7-OH products; Tennessee and Kansas shipping ended July 1, 2026; Mississippi allows sales to adults 21+ outside eleven northeastern counties. A product relabeled "LD7" is still a 7-hydroxymitragynine product everywhere those laws apply. Renaming changes the shelf tag, not the statute.
