How to Read a 7-OH Certificate of Analysis (COA)

A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a laboratory document that reports what an independent test found in a specific batch of product. When a batch code is present on both the package and the certificate and the two agree, the chain from "tested sample" to "product in hand" is intact. Contaminant panels: heavy metals, microbials, solvents
Potency answers "how much," while the contaminant panels answer "what else." Heavy-metals screening looks for lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury. Microbial testing looks for bacterial and fungal growth. Residual-solvent testing matters most for powders and extracts, where processing solvents could remain. Each line usually shows a measured amount, a limit, and a pass/fail result. A COA that reports potency but omits contaminant panels is only telling half the story.
Accredited lab, date, and signature
Finally, confirm who did the testing and when. An accredited laboratory, frequently one holding ISO/IEC 17025, operates under audited methods and documented quality controls. A named lab, an accreditation reference, a test date, and an authorizing signature together signal that the document came from an independent process rather than a spreadsheet. A recent date also matters, since it should correspond to the batch you are evaluating rather than a run from long ago.
